About Jackson-Reed Crew

Jackson-Reed Crew is the oldest high school rowing program in the District of Columbia and remains the only public school rowing program in DC.  In the the spring of 2022, the program changed its name from Wilson Crew to Jackson-Reed Crew to align with the name changes at its host high school.

The team consists of over 100 student-athletes and fields four squads: Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls, Novice Boys and Novice Girls. In addition, Jackson-Reed Crew also offers Learn-to-Row programs for DCPS middle-school students.

Jackson-Reed Crew receives no funding through DCPS or Jackson-Reed High School. Instead, Jackson-Reed Crew is a 501c3 nonprofit organization (Tax I.D. 46-0878484).  Fundraising and team operations are managed by the Jackson-Reed Crew Booster Club Board responsible for raising all of the funds necessary to operate Jackson-Reed Crew.

Based at the Thompson Boat Center (TBC) in Georgetown, the program was founded in 1985 and now has more than 30 years of history.  Jackson-Reed Crew is a founding member of the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Rowing Association (WMIRA). The team competes in a number of regional regattas and races throughout the fall and spring seasons. It also competes at the national level each year at the Head of the Charles, Stotesbury Cup Regatta, and SRAA National Championships.  Many Jackson-Reed Crew alumni are recruited to row for Division I and Division III crews at the collegiate level.
